When a carriage jam takes place in your Canon printer then you will experience the following things:

  • The printer will stop printing altogether.
  • Printing process stops in the middle.
  • You might hear loud grinding sound from your printer as printer try to move the carriage.
  • There is a paper jam due to which carriage jam is taking place. This mostly happens when you try printing on a thick paper like envelop.

Steps to fix carriage jam issue of Canon Printer:

  • Unplug the power cord of your printer.
  • Then open the printer cover so that you can see carriage assembly.
  • There are two buttons on the sides of the paper tray, you need to press them both simultaneously to remove the try.
  • Now slide the carriage assembly from the side to the middle, so that you can easily access it.
  • If this doesn’t help then you can push down the black bar which is above the roller and release them to spring it up.
  • Again try to move the carriage in the right.
  • Now look for the black component below the rollers. If it is pointing upwards, then push them down.
  • Then move the carriage to the right, then lift the actuator arm and release it to restore correct position (above white/gray gear).
  • Now put the paper tray back but don’t cover your printer.
  • After that, plug in the power cord and turn on the printer.
  • Finally, press and hold “resume” button and put the cover of your printer.
